A Volunteer-Based Program Helping Families Navigate the Joys and Challenges of Parenting
The Kootenay Parents Circle of Support is a volunteer-based program serving families in Nelson, Castlegar, Trail, Proctor, Salmo, and surrounding communities. We provide emotional and practical support during the first year of your baby’s life, because we understand that parenting can be both joyful and challenging
How Our Volunteers Help
Our trained volunteers are parents, grandparents, and individuals with experience in caring for infants. We offer various forms of support, from holding your baby to helping with light household chores, providing you with the break you need. Volunteers are paired with families for up to 6 weeks or longer depending on your needs.
- Going for walks together
- Playing with older children
- Holding your baby so you can nap or shower
- Helping with basic baby care
- Light household chores
- Regular phone calls or visits
How a volunteer can help
Become a Volunteer
Want to make a difference? As a volunteer, you will provide invaluable service to new parents and babies during their first year of life. We provide training and ensure a good fit between volunteers and families.
- Training and police security clearance provided
- Ongoing support from a volunteer coordinator
- Flexible commitment, typically 2 hours per week
How to Get Support
Self-refer or ask your healthcare provider to refer you to our program. Simply fill out the referral form and we’ll match you with a volunteer who can provide the support you need
